SANE Nurses: Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners
Catawba Valley Medical Center’s Emergency Department employs Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners, or SANE Nurses – forensic nurses who are specially trained to conduct examinations and gather evidence from victims of sexual trauma. These nurses complete intensive training and spend months finishing their practicum. This includes spending time at the District Attorney’s office and the Rape Crisis Center to become familiar with all aspects of what it means to provide care to this very special population and their families.
