Pat Benefield, MA, RN, FAACVPR, ACSM Certified Program Director, Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation
Pat began his career in Cardiac Rehab in 1983 after graduating from Lenoir-Rhyne College. In 1989 he completed his Masters Degree in Health Psychology at Appalachian State University, and in 1993 earned his certification as an American College of Sports Medicine Program Director. Pat is an active member of the North Carolina Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Association and has served as an officer at both the state and national levels. In the more than 18 years of service to CVMC, he has been instrumental in establishing the successful Cardiopulmonary Rehab Program CVMC is proud of today.
Pat believes that EBP is vital for optimal patient outcome in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation. All CVMC cardiopulmonary rehab patients receive individualized treatment plans based on evidenced-based guidelines. These guidelines are provided by the American Heart Association, the American College of Cardiology, and the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. Care plans for rehab patients address exercise training, education, psychosocial intervention and nutritional counseling. Pat says an evidenced- based individualized treatment plan provides “assessment, intervention, reassessment and follow-up care for all patients.”
Active in his community serving as a deacon at First Baptist Church of Granite Falls and as a member of the Granite Falls Recreation Advisory Board, Pat enjoys playing tennis, teaching tennis lessons and coaching basketball in his spare time. Pat and his wife Mary Beth have two children, Emily and Will. §
