CARF International announced recently that Catawba Valley Medical Center (CVMC) has been accredited for a period of three years for its inpatient rehabilitation programs. The latest accreditation is the fourth consecutive Three-Year Accreditation that the international accrediting body has awarded to CVMC. The medical center received initial accreditation in 2000.

This accreditation represents the highest level of accreditation that can be awarded to an organization and shows the organization’s substantial conformance to the CARF standards. An organization receiving a Three-Year Accreditation has put itself through a rigorous peer review process and has demonstrated to a team of surveyors during an on-site visit that its programs and services are of the highest quality, measurable and accountable.

“Being the only CARF accredited rehabilitation program in our region offers patients quality and state-of-the-art care during their needs of rehabilitation,” said J. Anthony Rose, CVMC President & CEO. “Patients experiencing stroke, trauma, or orthopedic conditions need comprehensive, quality nursing and therapy care. Catawba Valley Medical Center is qualified and credentialed to offer this important kind of care.”

CARF is an independent, nonprofit accrediting body whose mission is to promote the quality, value and optimal outcomes of services through a consultative accreditation process that centers on enhancing those awarded. Founded in 1966 as the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities and now known as CARF, the accrediting body establishes consumer-focused standards to help organizations measure and improve the quality of their programs and services.

Catawba Valley Medical Center is a not-for-profit, public healthcare system providing and promoting the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being of the public in addition to serving as a center for health education, wellness services, preventative medicine and acute care. CVMC, twice recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Magnet facility, was recently named as a “Distinguished Hospital for An Outstanding InPatient Experience” by J.D. Power and Associates as well as a Hospital of Choice by the American Alliance of Healthcare Providers.
