CVMC Nursing Execs Pass CNAA Exam

Susan Bumgarner, director of Organizational Learning, and Sherry Hardee, administrator of Surgical Services, recently passed the national certification exam in Nursing Administration-Advanced, according to Eddie Beard, vice president of Patient Care at Catawba Valley Medical Center.

“By acquiring the CNAA or Certified Nursing Administration Advanced certification, Ms. Bumgarner and Ms. Hardee are prepared for the responsibility of the management of organized nursing services and accountable for the environment in which clinical nursing is practiced,” said Beard. “Both are now qualified to collaborate with other executives in the health care organization in decision-making about health care services and organizational priorities.”

To become eligible for CNAA designation, an applicant must hold a registered nurse licensure, a master’s or higher degree, have held an administrative position at the nurse executive level for at least two years full-time and have completed 30 hours of continuing education applicable to nursing administration within the last two years. Certification is valid for five years and may be maintained through practice and continuing education requirements.

Ms. Bumgarner is also a Medical-Surgical Certified Nurse and Ms. Hardee is a Certified PeriOperative Registered Nurse.

Catawba Valley Medical Center is a not-for-profit healthcare system providing and promoting the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being of the public in addition to serving as a center for health education, wellness services, preventative medicine and acute care. The medical center was recently designated as the 32nd Magnet hospital in the nation and only the second facility in the Carolinas.
