Kids Korner Summer Camp

May 27, 2003

Learning Is Fun At Catawba Valley Medical Center’s Kids Korner Summer Camp!

To help alleviate your child’s summertime “what-can-I-do-now?” boredom, plan now to bring them to Catawba Valley Medical Center’s HealthFirst Center’s first-ever Kids’ Korner Summer Camp. Held on Tuesdays in June and July at 10 a.m., these 30-minute classes will provide fun and informative programs geared toward health and safety. Children ages 5 through 12 are invited to attend. Parents should plan to attend with your child. And because water safety is very important during warm summer months, here are a few rules for swimming safely.

  • Never swim alone.
  • Never dive into water unless given the okay by an adult who knows the depth of the water.
  • Always use a life vest when boating, fishing, waterskiing or playing in a river or stream.
  • Never swim around anchored boars, in motor-boat lanes or where people are waterskiing.
  • Never swim during electrical storms.
  • Never push or hold another person under water, or call for help in fun. A cry for help should only be made in a true emergency.
  • If you should swim or drift far from shore, stay calm and tread water or float on your back until help arrives. Keep your hands under the surface of the water for better body position, balance and floating.

To find out more about Kids’ Korner Summer Camp or summer safety for children, please call the HealthFirst Center at 828-485-2300. The HealthFirst Center at Valley Hills Mall is a service of Catawba Valley Medical Center, a not-for-profit healthcare system providing and promoting the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being of the public. The Center serves as a convenient location for health education and wellness services. CVMC was recently designated as the thirty-second Magnet facility in the nation and the second in the Carolinas.
