He describes our national overweight/obesity dilemma as "…an epidemic that drains our economy of billions of dollars annually and …together with a sedentary life style contributes to over 300,000 excess deaths each year."
Catawba Valley Medical Center (CVMC) wants to help those wishing to achieve or maintain a healthy
weight and lifestyle through its program entitled LEARN Weight Loss Classes. Led by Lynn Geissele, Registered Dietitian, Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist and CVMC Wellness Coordinator, two ten-week LEARN class sessions-one at 11:00 a.m. and another at 5:30 p.m.--beginning Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 6 and 7 will focus on Lifestyle, Exercise, Attitude, Relationships and Nutrition. The evening sessions of LEARN classes will meet 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and morning sessions will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesdays. All classes will meet in the Center for Rehabilitation's Conference Room on the CVMC campus. The evening classes will meet each Tuesday through April 10, 2007 and the morning sessions will meet each Wednesday through April 11, 2007.
To learn more about the program before the class sessions begin, introductory meetings are available on Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 5:30 p.m. and again Wednesday, Jan. 31 at 11 a.m. in the Center for Rehabilitation's Conference Room on the CVMC campus. Registration is requested prior to the first morning class on Tuesday, Feb. 6 or first evening meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 7.
Goals of the LEARN program are to help attendees achieve a balanced diet, change eating habits, start an enjoyable exercise program and achieve permanent weight loss. Each LEARN program participant will receive a confidential body fat assessment, a three-month membership to CVMC's Fitness Plus Center and the opportunity to join at a special rate.
