Six nurses who work in Catawba Valley Medical Center’s Surgical Services Department recently acquired specialty certifications, according to Sherry Hardee, CVMC’s Surgical Services Administrator.
Amy Rollins, Christina Pitts, Sharon Kubisch and Holly Connor each completed specialty certifications as Certified Perioperative Nurse. Jane Edwards completed certification as Certified Ambulatory PeriAnesthesia Nurse and Penny Matlock completed certification as Certified PeriAnesthesia Nurse. Each is also a registered nurse.
Registered nurses committed to attaining certification must fulfill a prescribed number of years’ work within that specialty area in addition to successfully completing a rigorous written examination. Certifications are generally awarded for three to five years. Renewal requires continuing education and completion of other criteria such as published articles or teaching.
