OmniPod™ Insulin Management System

April 12, 2006

CVMC's Center for Diabetes Control Offers Session on OmniPod™ Insulin Management System Tuesday, April 18

About 7% of our country's population--20.8 million children and adults--have diabetes, according to the American Diabetes Association. For many of them, daily diabetes management and monitoring is necessary.

The public is invited to attend a free informational session on Tuesday, April 18 at 5 p.m. to learn more about the next generation in diabetes management called the OmniPod™ Insulin Management System. Held at Catawba Valley Medical Center's HealthFirst Center in the Valley Hills Mall, the session will be lead by Patti Moore, Registered Dietitian, State Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist, Master of Science, Certified Diabetes Educator, CVMC's Center for Diabetes Control Coordinator.

"The OmniPod™ was created to provide more freedom, convenience and peace of mind for people with diabetes," said Ms. Moore. "This system has no tubing to disrupt insulin from disconnecting, snagging or kinking, to provide less visibility and more discretion and to allow freedom and convenience to move, bathe, dress and sleep."

In addition, the OmniPod™ system is designed to reduce physical discomfort and insertion-related anxiety and uncertainty with quick, consistent insertion. OmniPod™ also eliminates the need to carry separate infusion sets, inserters, batteries and reservoirs.

To register for the event, call the HealthFirst Center at Valley Hills Mall at 828-485-2300.

CVMC's Center for Diabetes Control is located in the Fairgrove Professional Building beside the hospital. Using a team approach to diabetes care and management, the Center's professional healthcare team includes nurse, dietitian, pharmacist, counselor and exercise specialist who have the best up-to-date training in current methods of treating diabetes.

For more information on diabetes or its treatment, call the Center for Diabetes Control at 828-326-3442.
