Dr. Al Osbahr recently joined Catawba Valley Medical Center as Medical Director of the medical center's Occupational Health Services. After receiving his medical degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Dr. Osbahr completed his residency in Occupational/Preventive Medicine at the University of Kentucky in July 1989 and a Family Medicine residency at Marshall University. He comes to CVMC following 14 years as medical director of Occupational Health Services in Clyde, N.C.
Dr. Osbahr is a well-known specialist across the state, having served as a physician reviewer for the past three years for Medical Review of N.C. and as a physician reviewer for the NC Industrial Commission for the past four years. He is certified by the American Board of Family Practice, the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners, and the American Board of Preventive Medicine. He is a member of the Civil Aviation Medical Association and has served as a delegate to the American Medical Association in various capacities since 1994. In addition, he was recently elected to the AMA Council on Scientific Affairs and is a member of the NC Medical Society Board.
In his new capacity at CVMC, Dr. Osbahr will direct and provide treatment of work-related injuries as well as services such as FAA exams, DOT exams, NIDA drug screens, employment physical exams, industrial drug screens, hepatitis B Injections, audiograms, pulmonary function testing, respirator fit testing, post accident drug testing, breath alcohol testing, urine drug screen collection, drug screen randomization program, disability exams and independent medical exams. He also serves as the Medical Review Officer for the facility's drug screening program.
