2006 'Shining Star'

March 12, 2007

CVMC's Critical Care Center Names 2006 'Shining Star'

Catawba Valley Medical Center's (CVMC) Critical Care Center (CCC) leadership group decided a few years ago to recognize CCC employees for their hard work and dedication to the nursing profession and exemplary patient care. The 'Critical Care Center Shining Star' campaign began out of this vision.

Recognized recently as the 'Shining Star' for 2006 was Treye Kennedy, RN. Each month the CCC staff members nominate 'shining stars' in the department, according to Melissa Deal, RN, MSN, Clinical Development Coordinator CCC. All who are nominated are announced at the monthly staff meeting and given a small gift of appreciation. In December 2006, CCC staff members nominated fellow employees for 'The Critical Care Center Shining Star 2006.' Kennedy was awarded a gift certificate to a local restaurant.

"I enjoy working in the critical care environment," said Kennedy. "It allows me to use my ability to critically think through the complex problems of our unit's patients. I feel honored to have been chosen for this award by my peers."

Kennedy, who has been with CVMC for about 18 months, brought with him a background in emergency medicine. He is a charge nurse for the medical center's CCC and telemetry units.

Catawba Valley Medical Center is a not-for-profit, public healthcare system providing and promoting the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being of the public in addition to serving as a center for health education, wellness services, preventative medicine and acute care. CVMC, recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Magnet facility, was recently named a Hospital of Choice by the American Alliance of Healthcare Providers.
