Catawba Valley Medical Center will join hundreds of organizations around the nation to mark National Sleep Awareness Week 2004, March 29 through April 2. An Open House, to be held Monday, March 29 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the CVMC Sleep Center, will help raise awareness about the importance of sufficient sleep as well as the consequences of sleep problems and the sleep loss that can result. This timely event happens just days before the clocks “spring forward” to Daylight Saving Time — when we can (but should not) lose a precious hour of sleep. Sleep personnel will be on hand at the Open House with tips on why it is important to get the recommended seven to nine hours of sleep each night for optimum performance, good health and safety. They will also provide tips to help all family members get a good night’s sleep on a regular basis.
In addition to the Sleep Center Open House event, the public is invited to attend other educational sessions on the importance of sleep. At 7 p.m. Monday, March 29, Dr. Robert Yapundich of Neurology Associates will speak on “Sleep Disturbances” at the HealthFirst Center in Valley Hills Mall. “Sleep, The Essence of Life” will the topic at 12 noon Thursday, April 1 at the HealthFirst Center. At this session, Barbara Morales, Registered Sleep Technician in CVMC’s Sleep Center, will provide information on getting the most out of your sleep.
For more information on these events or on sleep concerns, call Ms. Morales at 828-326-3692.
