Community Partners

At Catawba Valley Medical Center, we know that early detection of cancer can lead to better outcomes.  Because of this, we partner with other agencies to promote cancer awareness and early detection within our community.  These initiatives include the following:

Catawba County Health Partners

American Cancer Society

Catawba County Wig Bank
The Catawba County Wig Bank provides new and gently used wigs, breast prostheses and mastectomy bras for cancer survivors and patients who cannot purchase these items themselves. Head coverings are also available. All items are donated by the community and the American Cancer Society. Community volunteers make the turbans and other head coverings.

Other than the American Cancer Society, the wig bank is sponsored by NC Foothills Affiliate of  Susan G. Komen, Members Credit Union and Maiden Recreation Center Cheerleaders. The wig bank is staff by volunteers. The hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1– 4p.m. Appointments are appreciated. Call 828.732.6054 for an appointment. The wig bank is managed by the Catawba County Breast Cancer Coalition.

Catawba County Camisole Project

In conjunction with Catawba County Cooperative Extension and the Catawba County Breast Cancer Coalition, the Camisole Project provides free camisoles for women who undergo breast cancer surgery.  The volunteers meet on the first Monday of the month to sew these camisoles.  These soft camisoles are also useful for women who are receiving radiation therapy for breast cancer.  The ladies have been sewing for breast cancer patients since the summer of 2001.
