Patient Financial Services

Catawba Valley Medical Center is interested in assisting you and your family members with understanding your health care bill. You will receive a bill from the hospital for the services rendered by the hospital. Depending on the types of services you receive, you may receive an additional bill from one or more of the following:
  • Radiologist for interpreting x-rays
  • Cardiologist for interpreting EKGs
  • Pathologist for analysis of surgically removed tissues
  • Anesthesiologist for administering anesthesia during surgery
  • Emergency Room Physicians for treating you in the Emergency Room
Please note that we can only provide you with an estimate of the number of additional bills you may receive and the cost of these services.

Catawba Valley Medical Center admits and provides outpatient services only at the direction of a member of the Catawba Valley Medical Center medical or dental professional staff. All people shall be admitted and receive services without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, or national origin. Emergency patients shall be treated based on the medical need, with those requiring emergency services treated first.

Assignments to rooms and other facilities shall be made on the basis of medical need, availability, patient preference and financial considerations.

Catawba Valley Medical Center accepts Medicare and Medicaid.


PAYMENT

Catawba Valley Medical Center provides urgently needed services to anyone, regardless of that person's ability to pay. Persons requesting elective services must make acceptable financial arrangements prior to the service. Patients are requested to make payment at the time of service unless other financial arrangments are made with financial counselors.

Catawba Valley Medical Center accepts cash, personal checks, money orders, credit cards and verified third party insurance checks as payment for services provided. All charges not covered by third party insurance are due upon discharge or check out. The hospital will bill third party insurance as a service to patients.

Non-sufficient Fund/Returned Check fee of $30.00 will be applied for checks returned due to non-sufficient funds.

Payment from insurance is not guaranteed and the responsible party is responsible to ensure the account is paid in full.

In some cases, patients may be unable to pay for medical services. If you would like to discuss financial assistance, contact the Business Services Financial Counselor at (828) 326-3552.

PAYMENT ARRANGEMENTS

Catawba Valley Medical Center extends interest-free payment arrangements for charges not covered by third party insurance for up to 90 days from the discharge or service date. If payment arrangements are needed for a period longer than 90 days, an alternative payment option is available through AccessOne MedCard. Please contact Business Services at (828) 326-3393 if you have questions or need assistance.

PREFERRED PROVIDER ARRANGEMENTS

Catawba Valley Medical Center is the preferred provider for many local insurance companies and area employers. When Catawba Valley Medical Center is your preferred provider you are able to receive discounted services. If you receive a billing statement from Catawba Valley Medical Center that does not show the discount you believe you are entitled to, please contact the Business Services Department at (828) 326-3477 as soon as possible for assistance.

Registration or Business Services staff will be glad to discuss your health plan and the applicable benefits when you choose to receive services at Catawba Valley Medical Center.
