Support Groups

We are concerned about your well-being after you leave our care.  That’s why we make sure you understand what medications you will be taking and what they are for.  That you have an appointment with your physician to make sure your recovery is progressing as planned.  And that you know who to contact with questions or concerns.  We also encourage your comments on the care you received as a patient at CVMC.

You may receive a satisfaction survey about your care after you leave the hospital.  Please complete the questionnaire and return it in the postage-paid envelope.  This information is very important to us as we design improvements to better meet our patients’ needs.

Life Goes On meets the third Monday of each month (except December) at 6p.m. at Carolina Surgery and Cancer Center. PALS (Providing Awareness, Love and Support) is the new name encompassing all of Catawba Valley Medical Center’s Comprehensive Cancer Center support programs for children ages 5-12 with a parent or grandparent with cancer.  The PALS program includes CLIMB (Children’s Lives Include Moments of Bravery), a 6 week support and educational program offered twice a year. Participants learn facts about cancer and treatments, talk about feelings, and meet other children in a similar situation.  A parent program is also available.  The PALS group meets monthly for support/educational program when CLIMB is not in session.  Please call Barbara Stark, Oncology Social Worker at 828-326-3397 or email her at
