Volunteering at Catawba Valley Medical Center The value of the 175 volunteers who share their time and talents with the staff and patients of Catawba Valley Medical Center is immeasurable. They answer questions and give directions to visitors and patients at the information desks in the Lobby and Emergency Center, manage the hospital's gift shop, operate the Care-A-Van shuttle service from the parking lot, provide piano entertainment for patients and visitors and take on a host of special projects. If they were paid an average salary at CVMC for the 28,500 hours volunteered each year, that would translate to an approximate annual payroll of around $525,000. Instead they volunteer their time and raise funds to support hospital activities.
