Welcome to Walk Catawba Valley, a Heart to Heart program from Catawba Valley Medical Center.
Walk Catawba Valley is an outgrowth of Mallwalkers, a successful walking program CVMC formed collaboratively with Valley Hills Mall. Mallwalkers is an indoor-walking program for those who enjoy the activity in the controlled environment of the mall. But we want to go beyond the bounds of the mall and offer a walking program for everyone whether they prefer to step out of their homes and offices to walk or they step through current exercise activities at local gyms, fitness centers or their own homes.
Walking is the single most recommended exercise to improve and maintain good heart health. It’s fun, easy, can be done virtually anywhere and requires no special equipment except for a good pair of shoes. It is also easy to participate in our Walk Catawba Valley program. You need to do only three things:
- Register using the provided registration form
- Write in your walked miles on our provided logs
- Send in your logs at the end of the year

You can register to participate in Walk Catawba Valley by one of three methods:
1) Fill out a Walk Catawba Valley registration form and mail it to:

2) Fill out a Walk Catawba Valley registration form and fax it to The Health First Center at Valley Hills Mall at:

New enrollees will receive a starter kit including:
- List of Walk Catawba Valley and Heart to Heart classes
- Dates of cholesterol screenings
- Mileage Log Sheets
- Virtual Walking Tour Booklets
- Walking Tips Sheets
- List of Walking Tracks in Catawba County
Regardless of the way you register, you can pick up your Walk Catawba Valley packets at The Health First Center at Valley Hills Mall between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Logging Your Miles
The Starter Kit will contain 3 monthly logs. You will use one log per month. You will need to make additional copies after the second month. Please make your extra copies before you fill in all three sheets. Extra logs can be obtained at the Health First Center or download extra logs here. At the beginning of each month, fill your name, phone number and month/year on the top of the log. Write the first and last day of the week in the “Week of” column. Log your miles or steps daily.
Write in any Walk Catawba Valley or Heart to Heart classes that you attend that month, along with the date and points (bonus miles) received. You can earn up to 75 bonus miles from Walk Catawba Valley classes and 100 bonus miles from Heart to Heart classes yearly.
At the end of the month, you will add all your daily miles/steps together and write in the “Total Miles Walked” blank. If your pedometer measures steps, please convert into the steps into miles. 2000 steps equal 1 mile. Be sure to add any bonus miles for the classes you attend and place the sum in the “Total Monthly Miles” blank.
