Department of Corrections Provider Directory Update 7-7-04:
Contracted Providers who Admit to Catawba Valley Medical Center
Enclosed is the most updated listing of those Physicians who have elected to contract with the Department of Corrections. The DOC is directly contracting with their required specialties and WNCHA is not involved in the process other than as the facilitator between the two parties. We will also post this listing to the WNCHA webpage.
There has been some confusion regarding the Physician participation listing. Our understanding is that all physicians on Hospital staff who take call are obligated based on their hospital privileging requirements, to see any patient that is admitted, including DOC patients. However, the dedicated secure care unit staff and ED will make best efforts to contact one of the "contracted DOC physicians
(on the list)" as first line of defense.
However, if there is not a contracted specialty (as the DOC continues to "fill the service gaps") , or the contracted DOC physician cannot be reached, then the on-call physician within the specialty will be required to see the patient. Per the DOC, they will be reimbursed for their services at a usual and customary level.
Physicians interested in participation with the DOC may contact Valerie Harris, NC DOC Purchasing, at 919-742-9363.
Please contact Greg Billings, Amy Barnes, Rachel Cozort or me with any additional questions.
