Dr. James Ritter
Ritter is a 25-year healthcare professional. He comes to Catawba Valley Medical Group from Tri-State Cardiovascular Institute in Wilmington, Del. where he served as an interventional cardiologist, prior to which he operated his own practice. He spent nearly 20 years with Cardiology Consultants in Newark, Del. and served in tandem for four years as the Assistant Medical Director of the Cardiac Cath Lab at Christina Care Health Systems also in Newark. He has served as the principal investigator on numerous trial studies and carries board certifications from the American Board of Internal Medicine and the National Board of Medical Examiners. He earned his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, completed his residency at the Medical Center of Delaware in Newark and was a cardiology fellow at Lankenau Hospital in Philadelphia.

Dr. Derek Luney
Dr. Derek Luney worked at Hickory Cardiology Associates, PLLC, from 1996-June 2011 and Cardiology Associates of Anderson from 1995-1996. He earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA, and his Bachelor of Science in Biology and Mathematics from Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C. Luney completed his fellowship, residency and internship from the University of Alabama in Birmingham, Alabama. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology. Dr Luney performs cardiac catheterizations and also has interest in non invasive evaluation of the heart including echocardiography and nuclear cardiology.

Dr. Luke Byrnes
Dr. Byrnes joined Catawba Valley Cardiology in April of this year and is board certified in internal medicine, nuclear cardiology, adult comprehensive echocardiography, cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology. As both an interventional and clinical cardiologist, he is able to help prevent, diagnose and treat a wide range of cardiac diseases.After graduating from New York Medical College in 2003, Dr. Byrnes completed an internal medicine internship and residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Manhattan, followed by fellowships in both cardiology and interventional cardiology. He earned both Level II and III certifications with over 300 interventional procedures performed. Prior to joining the staff at CVMC, Dr. Byrnes worked as an interventional cardiologist at Meadville Medical Center, in Meadville, PA. He is a member of the American College of Cardiology and is bi-lingual in English and Spanish.

Lisa Michel, PA-C
Lisa Michel worked at Hickory Cardiology from 2000 to July 2011. She completed her Physician Assistant Master of Science from Aracadia University in Glenside, PA, and her Bachelor of Science in Biology with a concentration in Bioethics from Nazareth College in Pitsford, NY. Professionally, Michel is NCCPA Certified, ACLS Certified, and has been a member of the AAPA from 2000 to the present.
