Childhood Obesity Prevention |

While there are many obesity treatment programs available to children, the Healthy House is the first in our area to specifically address prevention. It is the only program of its kind in the region and is among the nation’s leading-edge childhood obesity programs.
The prevention program is specifically targeted toward at-risk children ages 3-4. Children may be considered at-risk if:
- They face socioeconomic, cultural, or environmental barriers to healthy living
- They have at least one parent who is obese
The goal of the prevention program is to instill the recognition of healthier lifestyle choices in children at a young age, which can help ward off obesity later in life. Participants include children from Head Start Catawba County. A limited number of spaces are available to the general public for children who qualify beginning September 2009.
